Motion Designer Job [Freelance]

At Animate Your Science we empower scientists to change the world by communicating in an effective and accessible way. We are a rapidly growing science communication agency with clients on 5 continents, who is looking for a freelance motion designer to join our team of contractors for the long term.

What you’ll have to do

Graphic Design
& Illustration

Create beautiful and original assets for 2D animations

Storyboarding

Based on the brief produced by our team of science communicators

Animation

Produce awesome 2D motion graphic animations. 

As a point of reference, we expect from this level and higher

What you’ll have to bring
  • You must fully identify with the company mission, vision and values.

  • You must have 3 or more years of experience as a motion designer.

  • Drawing should be second nature for you.

  • A showreel and examples of animations you produced.

  • You must work well under tight deadlines.

  • You must be reliable.

  • Fluent oral and written communication skills in English.

Desirable skills
  • Previous experience in science communication.

  • Experience with cel animation.

This position is fully remote and open to applicants from the whole world

Produce and submit a video cover letter of max 5 minutes where you answer the following questions.

  • Can you share a little about yourself and why you are interested in this particular role?

  • How do you feel about our mission, vision and values? Do they resonate with you? Why?

  • Why do you feel that your background makes you a good fit for this role?

  • In the past 12 months what have you done to develop your skills as a motion designer?

  • Tell me about your favourite animation you ever created? Why did you enjoy it so much?

Why a video cover letter? Because replacing the usual CV and cover letter with videos saves a lot of time to both of us and gives you an opportunity to show your personality. Don't worry about recording the perfect video, your webcam with decent lighting is all you need. We expect a simple talking head video, no need to go overboard with motion graphics, that’s what the showreel is for.
