How AI for Researchers Training Landed This Agronomist a $360,000 Grant

What does a $360,000 research grant, a career promotion, and a brand new research platform have in common? They all started with one decision: the willingness to learn.
Dr Fabio Arsego is a precision agriculture consultant at Agsave Merchandise, based in South Australia. He was curious about AI, had a solid coding background, and could see the potential, but he wasn't sure how to make it work for him professionally. So he did something that sounds simple but that a lot of people never actually do: he enrolled in an AI for researchers training and committed to learning properly.

A $360,000 Grant and a New Career Direction
This is where the story gets remarkable.
Fabio used the skills and confidence he built to apply for a three-year SAGIT grant worth $120,000 per year.
He got it!
The grant is now funding the development of a machine learning platform that combines geospatial analysis and weather data to give farmers in-season decision support for fertiliser application.
On top of that, he transitioned from an agronomist role into a precision agriculture consultant position, reflecting a genuine leap in how his company sees his contribution.
He was building working prototypes and bringing innovations to the table faster than before. Clients were coming back with strong positive feedback. Even his initially sceptical boss is coming around.
"A big part of my journey has been demonstrating the value of this work through real outcomes. I'm now starting to show how effective it can be."
I love that. Trust built through results.
